ACTION REQUIRED ASAP: TCAL League Waiver For Your Swimmer(s)

This contains a Parent/Guardian Must-Do… Please read the whole thing and take action right away.

As mentioned in this week’s update, the league (TCAL) requires all swimmers to sign a league waiver. A few clubs in the league register through their local rec dept (as Marlins does), so it requires an additional step through Swimtopia (the software the league uses).

Every family should follow these steps for their swimmer(s) ASAP —

  • Visit this URL:
  • Complete the required fields and agree to the League Waiver.
  • Confirm that you receive an email with the subject “League Waiver Confirmation”
  • Activate your Swimtopia account through the link in the email with the subject “Bexley Marlins Account Activation Instructions” (This can be helpful as it appears the league will post heat sheets through this site)

Thanks for your flexibility — there were technical difficulties and we were just able to get the team set up on Swimtopia this morning.

If you run into trouble — please email and we will try and help you out!

Thanks and Go Marlins!

Bexley Marlins Update 6/5

Key Dates this week.

Wednesday, June 8th – First meet, AWAY at Moundbuilders Country Club (signups are closed). WARMUPS ARE AT 5:00; MEET STARTS AT 5:30 (Visiting team warms up second)

Future Dates…

Wednesday, June 15th – First HOME Meet. WARMUPS ARE AT 4:30, MEET STARTS AT 5:30. (Home team warms up first)

Practice Reminders

Marlins shift to morning practice this week. 7:00-8:00 am for Varsity (U12, U14, U18) and 8:00-9:00 am for Junior Varsity (U6, U8, U10).

Junior Varsity Schedule… U6 Tuesday / Thursday (2 days)… U8 Monday / Wednesday / Friday (3 days)… U10 Monday – Friday (5 days)

Friendly reminder for kids. Swimmers should be on deck 10 minutes before start time to get caps on and be ready to go.

Friendly reminder for parents. Please watch from the upper deck (the area near the entrance). The coaches will ask you to move if you are near the competition pool during practice time.

IMPORTANT: League Waiver

– Sorry for the late notice, but we will need parents/guardians to sign a waiver for your swimmer(s) participation in the league in the next few days (specifically before the Wednesday meet). This waiver is a TCAL requirement to swim in the league. Details on how to do this are forthcoming.

Volunteer Updates

We still need a lot of volunteers for Wednesday’s meet (and will need even more for the home meet on the 15th). Every family is expected to volunteer throughout the season — if you are traveling to the meet, why not sign up to help out? All the jobs (except officiating) are easily trainable on the spot.

Spirit Updates

Marlins shirts have been ordered. They will be navy blue with the round Marlin logo this year. Global supply chain notwithstanding, we should have them for our first home meet Lauren Hanna will be selling last year’s shirts for $7 at JV practices this week, Tuesday-Friday (if you are looking for a spare).

4th of July Parade! We 100% NEED someone with a truck and a trailer hitch willing to drive and pull the parade float. It will involve pickup of the float the night before (and parking in our spot), being a responsible driver during the parade (watching out for kids and adults on the road), and then returning the flatbed to the pool parking lot the next day (and disposing of the decorations)

First swim meet sign-up

Happy first day of summer swim team!

Please indicate whether or not your child(ren) will participate in our first meet of the season AWAY vs. the Moundbuilders on the evening of Wednesday June 8th.
Warm-ups will be at 5:00pm and swimmers are expected to arrive at least 15 min prior to warm-ups.

Please use this google survey to indicate whether or not your swimmer(s) will participate in this meet; responses are due by this Friday June 3rd at 12:00 noon. Please complete the survey even if your swimmer(s) will not attend this particular meet. The coaches need swimmer participation information well before each meet in order to prepare the meet entries in a timely manner. You should receive a confirmation email indicating when you have completed the survey. If you need to, you can still go back and complete the survey a second time if anything changes prior to the entry deadline. We will use the most recent survey entries. We will also send out a list of confirmed swimmers for this meet after the survey window closes.

Thank you!

OFFICIALS: If you are interested in being trained as an official, please contact A recording of the recent training can be viewed on your time to participate. This training must be completed by June 1.

Meet Volunteers

Each home and away meet requires many parent volunteers to operate. We expect each family to volunteer throughout the season to ensure a smooth running experience for the swimmers. Even if your children are little, or if you are new to swimming — there is always somehow to show you the ropes.

Look for volunteer signups each week. Families can find descriptions of the help needed here

Schedule Update

There is now a date for Champs. It will be July 20th outdoors at Dresden, with a rain date of July 21st. The entire meet will be in one day, with different sessions for different age groups.

Missing Practice
If your swimmer is going to miss a single practice, there is no need to notify the team or coach for these “onesie-twosie” things- If your swimmer is going to miss (give or take) a week of practice — for example, if you are going on vacation — please let the coach know (

As Always. Families can find most Information…

5/23: Last Day for Marlins Registration

UPDATE: Swim Officials Training

First, a clarification. This training prepares volunteer officials who oversee swim meets (think of them as the swimming equivalent of referees). These individuals are trained to ensure that starts, turns, and all four strokes are done legally.

For each meet — each team must provide a few officials. The Bexley Marlins need a few more and are actively seeking volunteers for this. It’s a great way to be closer to the swimming action!

Second, there is now a Zoom option and a “watch it later” option for this training.

From the league…Tonight (May 18th), TCAL will host officials training led by Janna Hetrick at Moundbuilders Country Club upstairs in the ballroom. We have decided to record tonight’s meeting and make it available through Zoom. In addition, the league will send out a Google doc requiring that officials attest to fully attending/viewing this training before June 1st. All officials are required to take part in TCAL training.

Officials Training

Tri-County Aquatic League (our league) will host a swim official training session on Wednesday, May 18th at 7 pm at Moundbuilders Country Club.

NOTE: We will need a few new officials for our meets this year. To entice this, the team will offer a $50 rebate on your swimmer’s fees (paid at the end of the season) for the first 3 parents who get newly trained this year and officiate 3 meets.

Officiating is a great way to see a lot of swimming from a perfect vantage point!

Training Location, Date, and Time:
Moundbuilders Country Club
125 N 33rd St, Newark, OH 43055
7 PM, May 18th

The training is very straightforward and accessible no matter how much swimming experience you have.

\It is for both individuals new to officiating and those who are experienced. NET: If someone is planning to officiate at a meet this summer, they should plan to attend this training.
