Updates and Tips for Saturday’s Meet vs. Granville …

TIMING / WARM-UPS for Bexley start at 7:30 AM (on deck at 7:20!) with a meet starting at 8 AM. The bullpen will call the first relays at about 7:45 AM.

LOCATION: 1287 Hebron Rd, Heath, OH 43056. Please note that while the address is Hebron Rd., there is a turn-off from Hebron Rd. onto Sergeant Simpson Parkway. Look for the signs! https://tcalstingrays.swimtopia.com/location Note: the pool is open after the meet for paid-entry swimming if anyone wants to stay!

EVENTS AND HEAT SHEETS: Those will be distributed on Friday. Stay tuned!

FOOD AND DRINK: Granville does not offer a bake sale, but everyone is free to bring coolers, etc

WATER STARTS: Just a heads up or a reminder to coaches that this is a water-start-only pool (no blocks). Please remember that in our league the hand must remain on the wall (not just the feet) for a legal start.

SAFETY: Only the Olympic pool is open during the meet. Children and adults are not permitted to use the other pools, swing sets, or other recreational areas during the meets as they are not at full staff.

VOLUNTEERS: Thank you again — and listen for announcements!

Be On The Lookout: Volunteer Signups

Volunteer signups will be coming out for the upcoming meets — We will need everyone to pitch in! Even as a volunteer, you can see your swimmer in action!

Mark Your Calendar: Fourth of July Parade!

The Marlins will be in the parade on a float again this year! Always lots of fun, lots of candy, and Bexley turns out big for the parade.

Every Marlin should make a spirit poster regardless of parade participation. Posters can be dropped off at the front porch of 79 S. Ardmore Rd in central Bexley by Saturday, July 1st at noon. We will have two poster-making days starting after the varsity practice at the picnic benches on Monday, June 27th, and Friday, July 1st.

*More details regarding riding on the awesome parade float will be emailed this week.*

Coaches Note: Finishing Practice

We understand that there is often a lot going on in the Summer months, and sometimes schedules compete or are tight, but it’s important that swimmers finish their entire practice as often as possible.

When swimmers exit the pool early, it can distract the coaches and other swimmers.

See you in the pool! Let’s Go Marlins!

ACTION REQUIRED ASAP: TCAL League Waiver For Your Swimmer(s)

This contains a Parent/Guardian Must-Do… Please read the whole thing and take action right away.

As mentioned in this week’s update, the league (TCAL) requires all swimmers to sign a league waiver. A few clubs in the league register through their local rec dept (as Marlins does), so it requires an additional step through Swimtopia (the software the league uses).

Every family should follow these steps for their swimmer(s) ASAP —

  • Visit this URL: https://bexleymarlins.swimtopia.com/register/63197/main
  • Complete the required fields and agree to the League Waiver.
  • Confirm that you receive an email with the subject “League Waiver Confirmation”
  • Activate your Swimtopia account through the link in the email with the subject “Bexley Marlins Account Activation Instructions” (This can be helpful as it appears the league will post heat sheets through this site)

Thanks for your flexibility — there were technical difficulties and we were just able to get the team set up on Swimtopia this morning.

If you run into trouble — please email bexleymarlinsswimteam@gmail.com and we will try and help you out!

Thanks and Go Marlins!

Friendly reminder for kids. Swimmers should be on deck 10 minutes before start time to get caps on and be ready to go.

Friendly reminder for parents. Please watch from the upper deck (the area near the entrance). The coaches will ask you to move if you are near the competition pool during practice time.

IMPORTANT: League Waiver

– Sorry for the late notice, but we will need parents/guardians to sign a waiver for your swimmer(s) participation in the league in the next few days (specifically before the Wednesday meet). This waiver is a TCAL requirement to swim in the league. Details on how to do this are forthcoming.

Volunteer Updates

We still need a lot of volunteers for Wednesday’s meet (and will need even more for the home meet on the 15th). Every family is expected to volunteer throughout the season — if you are traveling to the meet, why not sign up to help out? All the jobs (except officiating) are easily trainable on the spot.

Spirit Updates

Marlins shirts have been ordered. They will be navy blue with the round Marlin logo this year. Global supply chain notwithstanding, we should have them for our first home meet Lauren Hanna will be selling last year’s shirts for $7 at JV practices this week, Tuesday-Friday (if you are looking for a spare).

4th of July Parade! We 100% NEED someone with a truck and a trailer hitch willing to drive and pull the parade float. It will involve pickup of the float the night before (and parking in our spot), being a responsible driver during the parade (watching out for kids and adults on the road), and then returning the flatbed to the pool parking lot the next day (and disposing of the decorations)

LET’S GO MARLINS!

Key Roles Needed
CONCESSIONS: Currently, we have no parent to run concessions at our home meets and need someone to raise their hand to facilitate this. Please get in touch with bexleymarlinsswimteam@gmail.com if interested. Ideally, we’d love to get two parents who can organize this activity.

OFFICIALS: If you are interested in being trained as an official, please contact bexleymarlinsswimteam@gmail.com. A recording of the recent training can be viewed on your time to participate. This training must be completed by June 1.

Meet Volunteers

Each home and away meet requires many parent volunteers to operate. We expect each family to volunteer throughout the season to ensure a smooth running experience for the swimmers. Even if your children are little, or if you are new to swimming — there is always somehow to show you the ropes.

Look for volunteer signups each week. Families can find descriptions of the help needed herehttp://www.bexleymarlins.com/getting-involved/volunteers/

Schedule Update

There is now a date for Champs. It will be July 20th outdoors at Dresden, with a rain date of July 21st. The entire meet will be in one day, with different sessions for different age groups.

Missing Practice
If your swimmer is going to miss a single practice, there is no need to notify the team or coach for these “onesie-twosie” things- If your swimmer is going to miss (give or take) a week of practice — for example, if you are going on vacation — please let the coach know (bexmarlin.coach@gmail.com)

As Always. Families can find most Information…
